Warwick NY
The first
stop an a road trip from capital to capital

We left town at 20 minutes to midnight. We were'nt late. We were right on schedule. A buddy's wedding was in four days and so, with a car full of suits and golf discs we took the long way to Washington DC.
The plan was to drive through the night,
sleep at a cheap motel and then hit warwick
NY first thing in the morning. We we figured
we were driving 3 or 4 hours out of our
way, but Warwick was not just any old course.
Right in the middle of his small upstate
NY town sits a challenging 18 that snakes
its way through tight forest and open rolling
hills. With two sets of tee
pads, and two pin
placements each with a permanent basket,
the course plays more ways than one can
count.
We woke up earlier enough and saught coffee and food for our quick hop to the
park. We had only a napful of sleep in us after we wasted an hour looking for
a motel only to have a smokey suggest we take our erraticly driven Tribute -
littered with spent coffee cups and beef jerkey bags and chip dust - back on
the road. The super 8 was surprisingly expensive considering we were still standing
in the lobby six hours before check out. It was the first time any of
us honestly thought a motel by the hour would be a good call.
After two long rounds, a few strong holes, and a few forgotten totals we dragged
ourselves back
into the car with plans of reaching conecticut by dinner. A step-brother-in-law
was awaiting out arrival with cases of beer, boxes of pizza and the freshly obtained
knwledge his wife would not be coming home.
With many stories told, we got to bed for what would be another nap. Shooting
straight across NYC, we needed to beat the traffic and get to Baltimore by noon.
